Nevermind Simply Vinyl 1997 - Jarrod Lawrence - 01-25-2018

I just recently discovered that there is a second version of this that only has 11 tracks as it is missing the song Lithium. This seems very strange to me and the Discogs page does not offer any information as to why this would have been pressed this way.

Does anyone have any backstory on why they would have pressed a version without Lithium on it? I would understand if it was a pressing error, but in that case, I would expect it to still be credited on the back, but even the track is not listed, making it seem completely intentional.

Must be a bootleg. Pics?

Here is the Discogs release page.

https://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Nevermind/release/9399029?ev=item-vc

It's not currently listed as unofficial. You can see in the pictures that Lithium is not listed on the back cover or on the record label. It has the same Simply Vinyl stamped PVC sleeve and silver label.

Here is the normal release page.

Apparently the only difference between the two, other than one missing Lithium, is the matrix on Side A. One is SVLP 0038 A-2-1- (with Lithium) and the other is SVLP 0038 A-1-1- (without Lithium). I contacted two of the sellers to confirm they actually had this copy. "nextcake" confirmed that their version did have Lithium, so they have it listed on the wrong release page. However, "Prunus" confirmed that they are selling the 11-track version.

If this is a bootleg, I wouldn't care for it, but if it is official, I think it would be neat to own, as it would be a truly odd release. What would you look for to confirm it is unofficial or not? The matrix of the two almost makes it seem like they re-released it after adding Lithium back on, so perhaps it was a mistake on their part?

It's strange that the one missing Lithium doesn't even have the track printed on the sleeve and label. It makes it seem intentional. Or a very, very fundamental mistake.

I can see from the picture of the no-Lithium record on Discogs that it IS a legit EMI pressing.

Really strange. Everybody should check their records.

Including the test pressings, as far as I know only SVLP 0038 A-1-1- test pressings have been found, but maybe some people didn't notice that detail. I'll check if my test has Lithium in a few days...

My TP is the 11 track version.
It has the same matrix code as Jarrod points out.

It is really really strange - being lithium one of the most recognized songs and also being one of the singles (thpugh we are talking 1997).

The retail copy I have has a rectangular silver sticker on the front and a circular silver sticker on the rear, I’ve seen other copies with gold stickers with S180 on them are they legit?

Yes. The silver sticker ones were released in the late 90s. The gold sticker ones are reissues. I don’t think anyone knows an exact date when they were released. All we know is that they are post-2000.

I was going to try and contact the company to find out exact release years, but I think they’ve gone out of business?

They have went out of business.
So there’s 3 versions?
Silver stickered with 12 tracks.
Silver stickered with 11 tracks.
Gold stickered with 12 tracks.
