06/15/91 - Iguana's, Tijuana, Mexico (Version #1) - Jarrod Lawrence - 07-05-2019

Artist/Designer: Unknown
Promoter: Unknown
Year: 1991
Class: Flyer
Status: Official
Paper: Thin Stock
Size: 8.5" x 11"; 11" x 17"
Notes: This version is thought to have been designed by a member of Olivelawn, or someone else close to or affiliated with that band. In 2018, someone on eBay named Mark who was roommates with a member of Olivelawn circulated several copies of this version (both the 8.5" x 11" and 11" x 17" variations). Since then, photocopied counterfeits have been found of both variations. The counterfeit version of the 11" x 17" variation was very close to the original. The counterfeit version of the 8.5" x 11" variation was printed on darker blue paper, and it is easy to tell that the paper is not decades old.

With every post you make, I feel more and more impressed with your collection. And most of all, with the knowledge you have assembled over the years. Let’s be honest, collecting posters and flyers is not the same as collecting records, cds and tapes. There isn’t Discogs or similar, the digging and the research are harder and in some cases almost impossible. Congrats!!!

Thanks! There are several other guys I know and talk to who really only collect posters, flyers and handbills, so we share a lot of information between ourselves with the research that we do. It's definitely different than collecting records, CDs and tapes. For the most part, there is at least one poster, flyer or handbill for every Nirvana show that was played, or even cancelled. Many times, there are multiple variations for the same show. And each year, a few new ones I've never seen before will turn up. Not to mention there are a TON of fakes and reproductions out there. These were items that were never intended to last beyond the show they were made to promote, so much of it has ended up in the trash, so it's impossible to have a "collect 'em all" mentality, which can be frustrating if that is your personality type. There are still many that I have seen images of online, but I have not once seen listed for sale in the last 6+ years. It is likely that many of those I will never see as there are only a few surviving copies and they are being held onto to by someone. And when they do turn up, you have every collector in a bidding war trying to get it, because we all think that it is our one and only chance to find it before we die, LOL.  Tongue

Nice insight. Do you have them framed or in a portfolio?
In frame please use museum glass, more expensive but worth to save it from uv light.
If in a portfolio, pls use acid free paper to protect it.

Keep the search, as the fun is all in it.
